The feedback you received regarding the HP ProCurve 6600 is not under HPE, makes no sense.

Why would there be a Procurve switching and routing forum on the HPE site?

There isn't a switching or routing forum section here.

I would like to take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums. I came across you post and would like to help. I read that you have an HP Pavillion 17 Notebook and it does not connect to your wifi where other devices connect fine. I also read that this same laptop works with another wifi over the hotspot. There seems to be a yellow star on the wireless icon.

I recommend you to perform the below steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a solution:

  • Please try to manually connect the laptop to the wireless network, view this video for detailed steps: http://hp.care/2hgosgY (this is a 3rd party link and I suggest you to ignore the ads.)
  • If the laptop still doesn't connect then the solutions are explained in detail in this document: http://hp.care/2caW6kZ

Feel free to let me know how it goes. Cheers! Smiley Happy

Need drivers for f018ca network card

MS pushed patch Dec 11, 2016 on HP 15 f018ca laptop and ever since laptopn cannot connect to network, neither wifi or cable.

Called MS, per ISP and they suggested that HP will provide driver, for sure. Got to the site and this laptop with Windows 10 as OS does not provide any driver update.

MS also said that this laptop does not support W10, however they upgraded it last summer (2016).

Can HP or anybody on the forum assist?

Thank you

Welcome to HP Support Forums. Smiley Happy I came across your post and understand that you're facing a wifi issue with your HP Notebook - 14-ac171tu. I'd like to help you with this case.

Here is a list of steps that commonly resolve issues with wireless connectivity.

First, we have a step by step guide to walk you through the troubleshooting process here: Troubleshooting Your Wireless Network and Internet Connection.

A second option, is to try these steps:
Powercycle the network:
1. Shut down your notebook.
2. Unplug the power to your router.
3. Unplug the power to your modem.
4. Wait at least 45 seconds.
5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.
6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.
7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.

Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:
1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)
2. Expand the Network adapters.
3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.
4. Click the Power Management tab.
5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
6. Click OK.
7. Test.

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:
1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.
4. Restart your PC and test.

It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:
1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.
2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.
3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.
4. Restart your PC and test.

Reinstall the network adapter drivers:
1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.
2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.
3. Expand Network adapters.
4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.
5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.
6. Restart your PC and test.

Test an ethernet connection:
Self explanatory. Test if the issue persists on a wired connection to rule out the wireless adapter hardware so troubleshooting can be directed towards the right areas.

Test another connection:
Many people rule out their home network as an issue if another device is working on the same network. Networking is not that simple. Each device interacts differently with your router or modem and it is impossible to rule out settings in that device until the notebook has been tested on another network.

If those three steps do not resolve the issue, try this document published by Microsoft for networking issues: Wired and wireless network problems

You can change the operating system with the drop-down in the upper-right corner of the document.

I hope this helps! Feel free to let me know if you need any help. Cheers! Smiley Happy

I want to upgrade my wireless card from a single band to a dual band

I have an HP Envy Dv6 7247cl Laptop that has a Ralink RT5390R 802.11bgn Wifi card. We recently switched to Comcast which offers 2.4 Ghz & 5Ghz wifi but the Ralink only recognizes the 2.4. How do I know if a wifi card I purchase  would be compatabile with and allow my laptop to recognize the 5Ghz band?

Sorry if my tech lingo is incorrect. I'm just average at best with tech stuff but willing to change out the card if there is one that will work.

Thank you.

There are updated drivers for Windows 10 at the following HP web page.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-15-Notebook-PC-series/7137590/model/7499118

I suggest installing the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver first.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71906.exe

Then install the appropriate wifi adapter driver. There are three different adapters that could be installed in your notebook. Check the Device Manager (hold down the Windows key  and tap the X) to see what is installed in yours.

Your notebook has a wifi adapter that matches the 1x1 antenna that is installed in your notebook.

A 2x2 antenna setup is required for an adapter that will  work on the dual band setup.

So.. unless you are technically competent enough to upgrade the antenna, it would be a waste of your money because it would not work.

Hi:

As long as your notebook currently has two antenna leads attached to the wireless card, you can install an Intel dual band 7260 Wireless N or AC card with no problem.

See this related thread...will work just fine...

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Pavillion-dv6-7000-WLAN-White-List/m-p/3200509/highlight/true#M277644

There is such thing as a 1 x 1 or 2 x 2 antenna.

There are 1 x 1 and 2 x 2 wireless cards, but the antennas that attach to either are the same.

There is only one kind of antenna used in a notebook PC and depending on the model it will have 1, 2 or 3 antennas.

Regarding antennas...This has been discussed before....

I would like to take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums. I understand from your post that the wifi light on your HP Pavilion 17 Notebook stays blue even after you press the wifi button and turn off the wireless connection. I understand that wifi works well. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I would like to know the following details to assist you better:

  • Did your laptop came with Windows 10 preinstalled or have you upgraded to Windows 10.
  • When was the last time the wifi light turned orange.
  • The exact model no. of your laptop. This link will help you find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

I will wait for your response. Thanks again! Smiley Happy

Hi:

According to the parts list for your notebook below, it comes with a Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11bg/n 1x1 WiFi adapter.

http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=J9M31UA

Here is the latest driver for that model card...newer than the one on the support page for your model.

This package contains the driver installation package for the Realtek RTL8723BE/RTL8188EE wireless LAN Controller in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system.

2023.40.801.2016 Rev.A(13 Sep 2016)

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp77501-78000/sp77548.exe

I've read forum posts regarding this model wlan card and W10...reports that the card simply disappears from the device manager.

Unfortunately, I would not be able to help you if that is the problem you are experiencing.

Welcome to HP Forums,

this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out Smiley Happy

As I understand you want to print using your Amazon Kindle,

Please follow these steps to print from a supported Kindle device:

  1. From a supported app, find the Print option from the app's menu, and then tap Print.

  2. Find the option to select your printer. The Android device displays a list of printers that are available on the Wi-Fi network.

  3. Find your printer on the Wi-Fi list, and then tap to select it. Once you select the printer, your device remembers the selection.

  4. If your printer is not on the Wi-Fi list or if you want to use the wireless direct connection method instead, find your printer on the Wireless Direct list, and then tap to select it. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection. Once your printer is connected, your device remembers the selection.

  5. Make any changes to the available printing options, if desired.

  6. Tap Print to send the print job to the printer.
