I have a NEW (about 1 week old) HP probook4540s that came to me with windows 8 installed. From the beginning it has had very slow internet download speeds (tested between .02Mbps and .27 Mbps). Here is what I know:
1. every other computer connected at same location has speeds of 20-21 Mbps
2. This computer is not faster whether connected through ethernet or wireless
3. This computer has upload speeds of about 7Mbps( similar to other computers at this location
4. our ISP is Comcast and there is no issue with the provider
5. These are the network adapters loaded on the computer:
Ralink RT5390R 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter
Realtek PCIe GBE Family controller
Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter
6. I checked for updated drivers and was told that the newest drives wre installed
7. I disabled the power saving device in device manager
8. Everything is disabled on startup except: 1. hp QLBC controller. 2. intel persistence module 3. intel igfxTray module 4. IDT PC audio. 5. intel hkcmd module. 6. Intel delayed launcher.
9. I went ot internet properties and cleaned following the instructions on the HP FAQ site
Basically I used the HP website FAQ and found instructions on troubleshooting a slow connection. Nothing worked.
The problem is not external. something in this computer is strangling the internet speed
